The Stone Lectures in Economic Inequality

The annual James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Lecture is designed to bring greater awareness to wealth concentration and the broader problems of inequality. Thomas Piketty delivered the inaugural Stone Lecture on March 30, 2018 in a talk titled "Rising Inequality and the Changing Structure of Political Conflict" at Harvard Kennedy School’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum. Emmanuel Saez presented the 2019 James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Lecture in Economic Inequality, "The Triumph of Injustice," on October 28, 2019. Joseph Stiglitz delivered the third Stone Lecture in Economic Inequality in conversation with David Autor on March 28, 2022 in the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum. On September 17, 2024, Daron Acemoglu delivered the fourth Stone Lecture in Economic Inequality with a presentation of "Power and Progress: Our Thousand-Year Struggle over Technology and Prosperity." Lina Khan delivered the 2025 Stone Lecture in Economic Inequality on Thursday, October 16, in the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum.
