Recent Speakers at Stone Program Events Win Nobel Prize
Daron Acemoglu, who delivered the 2024 James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Lecture in Economic Inequality on September 17 (pictured), and James Robinson, who spoke in the Stone Inequality & Social Policy Seminar on September 30, are co-winners (with Simon Johnson) of the 2024 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, announced just weeks after their visits to Stone Program events. In his Stone Lecture, Daron Acemoglu, Institute Professor at MIT, discussed his recent book, Power and Progress: Our Thousand-Year Struggle over Technology & Prosperity, in the JFK Jr. Forum at Harvard Kennedy School. The event also featured a Q&A moderated by Dani Rodrik, Ford Foundation Professor of International Political Economy at HKS. In his talk in the Stone Inequality & Social Policy Seminar on September 30, James Robinson, the Reverend Dr. Richard L. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies and University Professor at the University of Chicago, presented "The Breakdown of the English Society of Orders: The Role of the Industrial Revolution."
