On September 29, 2022, Professor Orlando Patterson delivered the Third Lee Rainwater Memorial Lecture with a talk on Slavery and Genocide in William James Hall. The lecture was co-hosted by the CUNY Graduate Center's Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality and the Harvard University Department of Sociology. The Lee Rainwater Memorial Lecture Series was launched in honor of Lee Rainwater (January 7, 1928 - July 4, 2015), a scholar of poverty, inequality, and social policy, and the founding Research Director of the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS). Professor Janet Gornick, Director of the CUNY Graduate Center's Stone Center and Rainwater's last PhD advisee, gave the introduction to the lecture. Previous Rainwater Memorial Lectures featured Robert Erikson (2017) and Kathryn Edin (2018).
