Kirsten Dinnall Hoyte is the author of [Black Marks](http://www.akashicbooks.com/catalog/black-marks/) (Akashic Books, 2006). She was awarded the Astraea Emerging Writer Award in 2006 and was a finalist for A Room of Her Own's [Gift of Freedom Award](http://aroomofherownfoundation.org/awards/gift-of-freedom/gof-finalist-showcase/) in 2007.
