DESCRIPTION:<p>	<strong>Jonathan Rodden</strong>, <em>Professor of Political Science, Stanford University.</em></p><p>	<!--break--></p><p>	<br><drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="55556e82-00cf-4b9c-9d08-7f9cfd686ab8" data-align="right" alt="Jonathan Rodden" data-view-mode="hwp_small"></drupal-media><strong>About the speaker</strong></p><p>	Jonathan Rodden is a professor of political science at Stanford University and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.  His research and teaching interests are at the intersection of political science, public economics, and geography.</p><p>	For over 20 years he has been working on issues related to federalism and various forms of fiscal and political decentralization around the world.  In addition to academic research, he has been engaged in policy debates in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa in collaboration with the IMF, World Bank, European Central Bank, and OECD.  He recently collaborated with USAID on an edited volume on fiscal decentralization.</p><p>	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="e24870d2-3abd-438a-9651-fff319d8a7ea" data-align="right" alt="Why Cities Lose, by Jonathan Rodden" data-view-mode="hwp_small"></drupal-media>Much of his recent research focuses on political and economic geography.  He published a book on the topic in 2019, <strong><a data-url="http://www.jonathanrodden.com/why-cities-lose" href="http://www.jonathanrodden.com/why-cities-lose" title="">Why Cities Lose: The Deep Roots of the Rural-Urban Political Divide</a></strong>, and has written a series of papers on the ways in which electoral districts, when superimposed on patterns of residential geography, can shape representation and public policy.  </p><p>	Rodden has also been involved in policy debates about redistricting.
