 Patrick Sharkey is Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs. He received his PhD in Sociology and Social Policy from Harvard and is a former Inequality &amp; Social Policy doctoral fellow. Sharkey was formerly Chair of Sociology at New York University, served as Scientific Director at Crime Lab, New York, and is the founder of [AmericanViolence.org.](https://www.americanviolence.org)  
  
He is the author of [ Stuck in Place: Urban Neighborhoods and the End of Progress Toward Racial Equality](http://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/S/bo14365260.html) (University of Chicago Pressm 2013) and [Uneasy Peace: The Great Crime Decline, the Renewal of City Life, and the Next War on Violence](https://books.wwnorton.com/books/Uneasy-Peace/) (W.W. Norton, 2018).

 In 2015 he received the William Julius Wilson Early Career Award from the Inequality, Poverty, and Mobility section of the American Sociological Association.
